Folded Paperback Trees

To add a little holiday flare to your home, check out this idea!

  1. Tear the front and back cover off of a paperback book, but leave the binding intact.
  2. Fold the top corner of the first page down to meet the binding.
  3. Then fold the same page down to meet the binding again.
  4. Turn up the resulting triangle at the bottom of the page so it's even with the bottom of the book.
  5. Make these same three folds on the next pages of the book until the tree looks proportioned enough (about 150 pages). If your book is longer than that just trim the excess pages off the binding.
  6. Glue the first and last pages together so the tree fans out and stands on its own.
  7. Decorate anyway you want: ink the pages with distress ink or mist with metallic sparay paint, add Candi dots for ornaments, or decorative ribbon as garland, and to top it off make a tree topper (I didn't know what to do for mine)
This idea was found in Family Circle magazine December 2011 issue.
